The mysterious illness

We got some news from the Vet last night, Patches blood tests came back clean, he's never been exposed to coronaviruses of any kind (no antibodies) so he's definitely not suffering of FIP which is great news. He's also negative for toxoplasmosis. So we were a bit hopeful that he may have had polyps which can be surgically removed and the Vet said she was going to X-ray him this morning. We just called to see how he's doing and the X-ray showed no sign of polyps at all, just massive swelling of his trachea which causes him so much trouble breathing. Still non the wiser on what the problem is and how to treat it. The Vet thinks it's viral but will refer him to a different hospital if they have a thin endoscope. She has him on steroids to reduce the swelling and we'll go see him this afternoon. Poor Patches. I don't know how I feel, deep down I don't think he'll make it and I hate all the suffering he's going through.

No news on the Dude, I've posted another note on a different board but he seems to have disappeared in thin air. I woke up this morning with the vivid image of his green eyes looking at me on wednesday night while I was feeding Patches from my laps...I think he may have felt that all our attentions were for Patches and didn't feel we were loving him as much. But we do love him so much, I hope he'll give us another chance.

oh hunny - i so feel your pain about your kitties. Please don't blame yourself, i know it's so hard not to, but sometimes sadly these things happen. Cats get lost, they get sick and sometimes people think they are so cute they take them - none of it is your fault.

I so so so hope though that Patches pulls through, and that Dude finds his way back to you. xx

I don't think the Dude thought you loved Patches more. Cats just do this. They escape and get lost for a little while and sometimes people take them in. I hope that someone sees your posters and returns him to you.

Hopefully, he will be home soon and Patches will be all better. Hugs.

I am so sorry about all the kitty trouble you have been having. I have had a cat run away and it's so emotionally hard. I hope that the Dude comes home soon. And I pray that Patches gets better soon.

It's so unfair that this is happening. After everything else. I'm so sorry. But I also doubt that the Dude felt neglected...I think animals are just sometimes wired to bolt when they see the opportunity. But I hope your naughty boy comes home soon, and that they do figure out what is happening to Patches. I so want this to be a happy ending for you, Fran. Hugs.

Is there a specialist in your area you can bring Patches to? When my peanut was having ongoing problems and the vet kept trying one thing after another, I finally took her to an internal medicine vet specialist who figured it out in one try. With both Peanut and my late B-dog, I was always amazed at how wonderful and knowledgeable the veterinary specialists are.

Good luck with both Patches and Dude. It's amazing the stories one hears about cats returning home, even after long distances or time.

Dude! come home already. Hope he is just wandering in the neighborhood and will soon return.

Much love your ways.

Hi Fran - Just catching up on your sad posts. I am so sorry to hear about the Dude and Patches. Cats are skittish creatures and I'm sure the Dude did not think you were paying any more attention to Patches than you were to him. Being the mama to two dogs my heart aches for you and your husband. I am glad to hear your vet is trying different things and waiting things out. I am sending you big prayers and hugs across the ocean that the Dude finds his way back to you and that Patches gets better. Hang in there.

I am so sorry your kitties are going through all this. I hope Patches surprises you and pulls through and returns to health. And, don't give up hope for the Dude. When I was little, we had a cat get out like that and he was gone for quite a while but did finally show up.

Fran, my heart is totally breaking for all of you!

I have to agree with what Clare said. Sometimes people take kitties not knowing if they already had a home, and usually assuming they didn't. Like she said, none of this is your fault.

My biggest fear is that you feel in some way responsible for all of this, or that you can't take care of animals based on this experience. I want you to kow that none of that is true at all. Patches was meant to come to you because God knew you would love him and take care of him. As for The Dude escaping, you can't blame yourself for that. All we can do is hope he comes home. Know that none of this say anything about you ability to be a pet parent. It is just the way the chips fell. Granted, it would have been so much better had they fallen a little differently.

I'm praying Patches finds relief and that The Dude comes home. All hope is not lost yet.

*hugs*
